OSS Front Desk

August - September 2022 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

N/A

What I wish was different

I actually was only offered to interview, in which I provided my availability immediately and left in the dark until I called OSS front desk and pushed for a time on top of multiple emails. I was then rescheduled twice both times needing to call OSS and never got the opportunity to interview before receiving an email telling me they had went ahead with another applicant. Needless to say, I am frustrated and furious. I wasted time anticipating an honest and fair interview only to have been pushed back until the job was filled.

Advice

Don't waste your time.

Freshmen counseling intern

What I liked

I liked how even though it was over zoom, the team still found a way to connect with one another. I also like that the job was remote, so I was able to travel and still work.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to meet my coworkers in person, but I met them once Covid restrictions had lifted a little more.

Advice

If definitely recommend, if you can, to work an on campus job that allows you to work during breaks so you can still make some money.

Orientation Leader

September 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I had an amazing time getting to know some of SPU's newest students and show them what SPU has to offer. They were able to sit in on sessions that provided them insight on navigating college. As an orientation leader, I helped them get familiar with the campus and answered any questions they had. It was an amazing experience to see the students making connections and find their place here at SPU.

Orientation Intern

July - September 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Great experience interacting with a variety of people at the university as well as numerous vendors. Being trusted to handle large parts of the event was also encouraging and exciting.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have started the position earlier. Orientation planning begins so far in advance that even though I came on in July, I still felt behind in many of the plans.

Advice

Say yes. I said yes to so many different tasks that I'd never done before and the experience was incredible. I made connections with several VPs that I may not have interacted with had I been less willing to do whatever needed to be done for Orientation to happen.
