Job Title:                                       Graduate Assistantship: SPU Grad Admissions Welcome Team

Hourly Pay Range:                    $19.00/hour

Minimum Hours:                       Academic year: 10–15+ hrs/wk; schedules are arranged around class times.
                                                         
Employment Period:               2022-23 academic year; preference for those who can return for future academic years and/or summers.
                                                                                                                  
Days of the week:                     Monday – Friday during business hours; opportunities for some shifts to be completed remotely.

Description of Duties:

Graduate Assistants are responsible for learning and retaining a large amount of information on a variety of different procedures and departments on campus. The goal of the Welcome Team is to serve prospective graduate students and assist the Graduate Admissions department in recruitment activities. The Admissions Welcome Team is a highly visible department and it is important that student employees make a good “first impression” of the University to everyone who calls, emails, or visits, or seeks assistance from our office.

Graduate Assistants work alongside other assistants and interns to respond to questions in-person, over the phone, and via email for prospective students. The Graduate Assistant focuses on responding to Graduate Admissions inquiries for all graduate programs offered at SPU.

This position requires a high level of professionalism, responsibility, and collaboration, as well as a sense for best practices in customer service. The graduate assistant duties include, but are not limited to: answering office phone lines; responding to email inquiries; making outgoing phone calls to prospective SPU students; utilizing a complex CRM system; & leading an occasional graduate-level campus tour. The graduate assistant also works at the front desk to check students in for appointments and speak in-person with prospective students about the university when in-person meetings are being offered.

Depending on experience & interest, strategic leadership opportunities may be available.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience Required:

Excellent customer service skills; professional phone voice; high level of critical thinking; problem solving skills; self-directed learner; superior writing ability; ability to handle multiple tasks; friendly and personable demeanor; a teachable attitude; enthusiasm for working cooperatively in a team setting; passion for higher education & SPU’s mission. Good academic standing (a GPA of 2.5 or above) is also required.

Previous office experience is preferred.
