PSY/SOC/CRIM 2360 Peer Tutor
PSY/SOC/CRIM Peer Tutor Position Description 2022-2023
The Center for Learning is hiring peer tutors for the 2022-23 academic year. A PSY/SOC/CRIM Peer Tutor will host a welcoming, inclusive study space called a “Study Table” (in person or via Zoom) and assist students individually and in small groups who drop in to ask questions, do homework, and study for exams for PSY/SOC/CRIM 2360 and PSY 1180 (if the tutor has taken general psychology). The tutor will work 4-6 hours per week during each quarter (specific times depending on tutor availability and program needs).
A PSY/SOC/CRIM Study Tables Peer Tutor must have completed PSY/SOC/CRIM 2360. In addition, the tutor must be able to communicate effectively and have a PSY or SOC faculty recommendation affirming a strong grasp of related academic subject matter.
Peer Tutors must exhibit:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong grasp of general psychology/sociology content (B- or above in PSY 1180 and PSY/SOC/CRIM 2360)
- A commitment to equity and inclusion
- The ability to recommend academic tools and strategies to their peers
- In addition, a Peer Tutor must hold and maintain an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher and must be in good standing with the university.
Compensation:
- Hourly pay rate is $17.48 per hour
- Tutors are paid for assigned tutoring hours and training sessions they attend

Deadline to apply is Monday, May 9.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Applicants who are chosen to move forward will be contacted via email regarding next steps and interview times.
Job Responsibilities
- Host study tables sessions and promote a welcoming, inclusive learning environment
- Engage student questions by helping students assess what they already know about class content and what they still need to learn
- Model and teach learning strategies for course content
- Use class resources and tutor knowledge to help students fill gaps in understanding
- Refer students to faculty members when their questions are beyond the scope of the tutor
- Participate in ongoing training and supervision meetings
- Be responsible for other related tasks, as assigned
- Be able to tutor during fall, winter, and spring quarter of 2022-23 academic year
