Volunteer and Development Support Specialist -- State and Federal Work Study

JOB TITLE:  Development Support Specialist (Fundraising) 
REPORTS TO: Development Manager

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be current University of Washington, Seattle U, or Seattle Pacific University student eligible for Work-Study as part of their financial aid package. If you are unclear on your eligibility, please consult your 
campus’s financial aid department before applying. Proof of Work-Study eligibility is required before an interview. 
 
POSITION SUMMARY:  The Development Support Specialist supports the Development department, which oversees media, community development, and donor acquisition, by assisting with data management, logging incoming donations, providing donor acknowledgment letters, and helping with social media creatives. 
 
This internship requires an interest in providing administrative support for a nonprofit agency that specializes in services for those experiencing homelessness, mental health crisis, or currently engage in substance use. It is an excellent opportunity for the intern to be exposed to homelessness services, office administration, and nonprofit fundraising. Candidates are provided necessary training to grow and succeed and no experience is required to apply. This position is current a combination of in-office (4541 19th Ave NE) and remote work. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
Development Department 
 
  • Assistance with social media presence including instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn (TikTok is not permitted at this time) 
  • Tracking and organizing incoming shelter donations, including monetary and item donations, which requires: 
  • Using a copier 
  • Filing and organizing physical check copies, as well as using an online database to enter and track donations in (Kindful) 
  • Keeping the Development Manager and leadership staff up-to-date on major donations 
  • Thanking and sending donor acknowledgements, both physical copies and digital 
  • Use of canva, microsoft word, excel (very basic functions), and strong attention to detail are a plus 
 
Accountability: The Development Support Specialist is accountable to and is supervised by the Development Manager, but will be required to be self-governing in their work progress and scheduling. 
 
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
 
  • Must be University of Washington, Seattle U, or Seattle Pacific University students who qualify for Work Study as part of their financial aid package. Proof of Work Study eligibility will be required prior to conducting an interview 
  • The chosen candidate will attend all necessary trainings before beginning the job 
  • Complete application and background check 
  • Must be 18 years old or older

QUALIFICATIONS  
 
  • Interest in working in a volunteer-driven, anti-racist, harm-reduction, equity-oriented service organization. 
  • Interest in working with young adults or homeless and under-served groups, including demonstrated ability to positively engage with people in need 
  • Basic typing and keyboard skills 
  • Willingness to learn new technology 
  • Ability to work from a sitting or standing position, walk around the office, including stairs, and do light duty movements (no heavy lifting) 
This is a part-time hourly position, expected to work from 10 up to 19 hours/week. The selected candidate will determine the exact schedule in conjunction with the Development Manager. The position is open to Work-Study eligible students attending the University of Washington, Seattle U, or Seattle Pacific University.
