Thrift Shop Operations Assistant - State Work Study

Position Overview
This fun, fast-paced position provides customer service, and merchandising support for the Mercer Island Thrift Shop. We're located next to Mercerdale Park, a four block walk from the Mercer Island Park and Ride. You'll love the positive community vibe, upscale approach to Thrifting, our diverse team of volunteers, and a committed management team that supports developing you as a leader.

Our current hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, from 8am to 5:30 pm. Closed Friday and Saturday. Our operations are expanding to 7 days a week in 2022. We work around your school schedule to strike the best balance of meeting the business needs and your student life. Do you need an evening schedule now? Educational Benefits
This position provides experience working in a public nonprofit organization, and relates to academic studies in business administration, social enterprise, entrepreneurship, and management. Students gain knowledge in internal and external customer care, business planning, productivity, sustainability, and maximizing retail sales for a variety of used consumer goods.

Essential Job Functions
Retail Location:

Help with the opening and closing duties of the store.
Communicate with volunteers and organize a daily work plan with the scheduled supervisor.
Ensure the delivery of quality customer service to patrons.
Assist volunteers with technology issues as needed.
Maintain visual standards, stock levels, and cleanliness of the store.
Cashier as needed.
Follow the standard COVID operations outlined for the Thrift Shop retail location.
Monitor safety and security issues and report to supervisor.
Problem solve and troubleshoot.
Report any illegal behavior, thefts, injuries, accidents, etc. to supervisor.
Monitor Thrift Shop operations supplies, and request as needed.
 
Donation Center Location:
Provide availability on Saturdays to assist with donation collection drives. Weekday shifts are scheduled based on a student’s availability, in tandem with their school schedule, and the Thrift Shop’s evolving operations hours.
Monitor Thrift Shop donation bins and transfer goods for processing.
Communicate with supervisor and organize a daily work plan.
Ensure the delivery of quality customer service to donors.
Follow the standard COVID operations outlined for Donation Center operations.
Monitor safety issues and address problems.
Maintain a well-organized production and receiving area.
Maintain equipment and request operating supplies as needed.
Help receive, distribute, and price donations.
Assist volunteers with technology issues as needed.
Handle the organization and cleanup of workstations and equipment at the end of each shift.
Organize excess donations. Handle the removal of recycling and garbage.
Help with the transfer of donations and priced goods between the Donation Center and the Shop.
