Office of University Ministries, Office Assistant

General Description of Position
The Office of University Ministries is made up three areas: John Perkins Center, Campus Ministries, and Church & Community Connections. The Office Assistant (OA) provides administrative and clerical support to the staff of the Office of University Ministries. In coordination with Residential Life and the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership, the OA also provides general support at Central Reception desk on the second floor of the Student Union Building. The OA is a part of the Creative Ministries Team, under the direction of the Minister of Church & Community Connections, to leverage their collective gifts and skills to provide overall support to the development and implementation of University Ministries initiatives. This position is for current SPU students eligible for on-campus employment.

Description of Responsibilities
  • Assist University Ministries staff and departments with clerical and administrative duties
  • Provide “customer service” to students, staff, faculty, and community members by phone, in-person, postal mail, and email.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide information on University Ministries related events and programs.
  • Participate in the implementation of SPU worship services and events sponsored by University Ministries.
  • Assist with general office-sponsored activities (student leadership application process, General upkeep duties: cleaning office space, storage, organization, and food service help.
  • Weekly team meetings with supervisor.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
  • SPU undergraduate student, preferably a current sophomore or junior in standing.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and spoken form.
  • Ability to walk outdoors and stairs for delivery of inter-office documents and communication.
  • Ability to load/unload items (mail packages, delivery items, etc.).
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SPU and University Ministries programs.
  • Detail oriented, reliable, self-motivated, and of strong personal integrity.
  • High level of customer service and ability to work in a student services and professional setting.
  • Experience with design and/or customer service, a plus.
