Admin Assistant - State Work Study

Work Study Job Description:

Morningside Academy is seeking an Administrative Assistant up to 19 hours per week at its downtown Seattle location during the Academic Year.

Nature of Organization:

Morningside Academy is a non-profit school that helps both elementary and middle school students catch up and get ahead. Our students have not previously reached their potential; many have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or ADD/ADHD; all have average to well-above average intelligence. Morningside is not a school for children with significant emotional problems, behavioral problems, or developmental delays.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will assist with administrative tasks supporting Morningside Academy’s front desk. Tasks include reception, answering phones, communicating with parents, making coffee, helping teachers and staff with administrative tasks such as copying, helping administratively with fundraising or facilities projects. May also help supervise lunch and recess. This is a great opportunity to those interested in non-profit, administration, and educational fields (but it’s also a good all-around on-the-job experience). Must have off-campus state work study, be dependable and able to work with others and have an ability to keep accurate records while multi-tasking. Some academic work with students possible. We love to have work studies stay with us long term, and will have lots of opportunities over the summer and next year, too! We give all work studies a fully-paid Orca card for the use for the duration of their time with us. Our office is open Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. Hours within those times are very flexible and we will accommodate changing school schedules. Rate is $15.75 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs (ie a box of paper). Experience working in an office setting or with children is a plus, but all backgrounds are considered. Must be able to pass a Washington State criminal background check.
