Job Title:            Graduate Assistant

Reports to:        JPC Executive Director
FLSA Status:      Student Part-Time, non-exempt
 
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Serves as administrative and ministry support for the John Perkins Center (JPC) and Center programs on the second floor of the Student Union Building. Assists the JPC ministry staff in ministry areas within both student engagement and community partnerships - including ministry support for the local and/or immersive ministry programs, campus and community events, and other special projects as directed by Supervisor. Assists with general communication and publicity, budget and database management, and newsletter. Attends to general office duties for the Center and participates as a JPC team member to support, develop, and communicate the goals and programs of Center. www.spu.edu/perkins

The GA must be a doctoral/masters student in good standing at Seattle Pacific University. At the time of application, the student must be available for a potential one to three year commitment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1.    Provide general, professional reception in the office and offer student and community referral to JPC services, staff, and programs. Maintain office space, answer incoming calls and inquiries, distribute mail and supplies, respond to phone calls and emails, manage hospitality, etc. Maintain an awareness of JPC programs and services throughout the week.

2.    Provide administrative support for the Center and the executive director, including work on various JPC projects. Process budget paperwork and maintain data records (payments, procurement card forms, deposits and reimbursements, budget record, etc). Information and event coordinating assistance for Center programs and events, including JPC Community Dinners and the annual Lecture Series. Data collection and research as requested.

3.    Assists with communication and publicity between the Center and other campus offices, externally to organizations and partners, and to general student body. Provide assistance in publishing the weekly JPC newsletter (format and populate events calendar) and managing the Center’s social media.

4.    Assists Center staff in student leadership programs and community partner projects as assigned. Possible direct program assistance to local community engagement programs, and/or immersive community engagement programs.

5.    Participates in particular staff meetings and staff retreat days as requested, and as schedule allows

6.    Represents the goals and mission of the Center.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
(Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

1.     Education:  Currently enrolled in an SPU Graduate Program, masters level or higher
 
2.     Experience
1+ years of office experience in a professional or academic environment, demonstrating the ability to be detail-oriented, professional and able to work independently.
1+ years of customer service experience, with an ability to communicate sensitively with very diverse clientele including ethnic minority and international individuals, students, staff, faculty and parents.
 
3.     Licensure/Certification:  US work authorization required
 
4.     Other Considerations:     

A vital Christian faith comfortably expressed with Christians and non-Christians alike; strong problem-solving skills; calm in conflict situations; competence with multi-tasking; and outstanding written and oral communication abilities. Comfortable with learning new systems and software programs. 
 
5.       Software And Equipment Used: Personal Office Computer, copy machine, telephone system, social media - facebook. MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google docs.

EMPLOYER PREFERENCES
Experience in personal development around awareness of one’s social location and identity development
Interest in student development work and ministry, including previous experience with college-age students, with outstanding ability to relate to students individually and corporately.
Experience with urban/global programs in an educational, community or non-profit organization setting.

COMPENSATION
Paid
$18.50 per hour

HOURS OF SERVICE
Up to 15-20 hours per week
10 month appointment, during formal academic quarters (September – June)
