Graduate Career Advisor (GCA)
The GCA must be a doctoral/masters student in good standing in the Clinical Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or Counselor Education programs. At the time of application, the student must be available for a potential two to three year commitment. The applicant should express interest in career development/vocational psychology and articulate how such training and experience will benefit their professional career.
Specific Duties
Training
- The GCA will receive extensive training in career development/vocational psychology. A portion of this training will be delivered on-site at the CCC in trainings, through job shadowing, and by attending/observing workshops and events.
- The GCA will be expected to work on the CCC’s Online Field Guide and facilitate learning for participating students.
- GCAs are expected to begin service-delivery through job shadowing but become increasingly independent such that they are providing services independently within the first year of service and assisting with new GCA training in subsequent years of service.
Service Delivery
- GCAs can be expected to participate in all aspects of CCC functioning including workshops, groups, classes, individual counseling, career fairs, resume reviews, and so forth.
- GCAs may be assigned projects such as resource development for worksheets, internet, and so forth.
Professional Contribution
- As class schedules permit, GCAs may be asked to attend staff meetings and work on committees related to the work of the CCC.
Hours of Service
The initial concept of the three year appointment is that GCAs will be hired hourly for approximately 12-14 hours per week.
