Data Entry Operator

The Data Entry Operator reports to Advancement Services in the University Advancement office on campus. This position will assist in maintaining an accurate and consistent database of our alumni and donors.

On an ongoing basis, the Data Entry Operator will perform the following duties as needed:

  • Update address, telephone, and email changes on donor and alumni records
  • Update biographical details and communication preferences, and input notes
  • Miscellaneous data-related projects as they arise
  • Assist with office errands and tasks as necessary

This position requires sound judgement and the ability to make calculated, wise, and guided decisions from sometimes limited information. This job requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as proficiency in writing and typing. Previous experience in data entry or database systems (such as Raiser's Edge) is an asset but not necessary as training will be provided. Basic understanding of Office applications such as Word, Outlook and Excel is expected. Because of the close proximity to University donors and a professional environment, we expect the same conduct from our student workers as we do our staff

This is a great opportunity to gain experience working in an office environment. Learn firsthand how our data is accurately managed and used effectively to achieve the goals of the university. As you will discover, data is the backbone of the business world. The skills developed in this position are highly transferable for any career path.

Working hours are weekdays during business hours, flexible around your class schedule. Ideally, you would work 10-15 hours a week in shifts of 2 hours or greater*. You may continue working in this role during official academic breaks (excluding office closures) and for as long as you are a current student at SPU. During these breaks, you may choose to work additional hours as long as it's within our budget. You must be enrolled in at least 6 credits per quarter (excluding Summer) to be eligible.

Important:

*For this particular opportunity, we are looking for someone who is able to start during Spring quarter, at 5-10 hours per week. The ideal candidate would also be able to work at least part of the summer - a minimum of 6 weeks is strongly preferred, most or all of the summer is ideal - at regular or extended hours, as we have quite a few tasks and cleanup projects that need attention during this season. The part of the summer you choose is up to you, however we would prefer that it's all completed in a single period. This position will continue into the 2019-20 academic year.
