Responsibilities

Student Academic Services helps students with scheduling and catalog concerns, questions about course sequences, transfer credits, transcripts, veterans education benefits, and more. Within Student Academic Services, Academic Counselors register incoming students, evaluate transfer credits, provide graduation checks, review and award completed degrees, consult with faculty advisors, and generally advise students on academic policies and procedures. As a Counselor Assistant, you will work directly with the Undergraduate Academic Counselors in Student Academic Services to assist with daily tasks regarding students' academic progress. This will include filing of paperwork, data processing, project management, and other tasks as assigned. While much of your work with involve traditional administrative tasks and can be considered "behind the scenes," you'll also work occasionally with students, parents, and faculty advisors as you support the Academic Counselors. Counselor Assistants spend a significant amount of time on the computer and expertly manage several important student data processes in Banner (in its behind-the-scenes format). Work will include both daily administrative tasks and project management related to larger academic counseling processes and programs.
This position is part-time (10-15 hours per week) during the academic year, and full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer. Full-time work is also available during spring and Christmas breaks.

Professionalism and a high level of sensitivity to the confidential nature of data involved are important, as is a working knowledge of computer programs and applications such as Microsoft Office.
