The office of University Communications is looking for a current SPU student to serve as an assistant to the managing editor of Response magazine and other UC Communications Specialists, beginning in Autumn Quarter 2018.

This is an ideal opportunity for a communication, journalism, or English major who is interested in exploring a career path in magazine editing and publication. The editorial assistant will have opportunities to sharpen proofreading, editing, and writing skills, and to learn more about marketing, printing, and more.

This position is:
10-15 hours per week
On-campus / Academic year
Work study or non-work study

Job responsibilities:
·     Proofreading, editing, and fact-checking Class Notes for Response magazine
·     Assist other UC staff members with a variety of projects for University clients
·     Proofreading SPU web pages
·     Write for Response and SPU Voices and SPU social media accounts
·     Help compile and/or maintain mailing lists
·     Run errands on campus when needed (putting up posters, deliveries, etc.)
·     On-campus distribution of each issue of Response magazine
·     General office work (answering phones, filing, copying, etc.)
·     Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The editorial assistant will have an eye for detail and accuracy, excellent proofreading and writing skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Word is required. Editorial experience, customer service experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Associated Press style are preferred but not required. An editing test will be required during the interview.
