Substitute Childcare Teacher - State Work Study
Overview
Under the general direction of the Director and teaching staff, the Support Teacher provides quality, comprehensive child development services and selected health services to children (3 months to 5 years old) and their families.
Essential Functions
· Assist the lead teacher and teachers with both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
· Has skills to follow directions from teachers
· Takes initiative
· Maintain daily open communication greeting parents
· Completes accident reports and alerts teaching staff
· Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
· Report any suspect abuse to supervisor
· Maintain a safe and healthy environment
· Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials
· Attend in-service and staff meetings
· Keep all appropriate records such as records, attendance and timesheets.
· Meet all applicable licensing regulations
· Recognize that the teacher is in charge.
· Assist the lead teacher in general supervision and management of a group of young children.
· Assist the teacher with the daily classroom activities.
· Assist in preparing the learning environment, setting up centers and preparing needed materials and supplies.
· Help prepare and serve snacks.
· Help with general housekeeping tasks.
· Attend to the needs of individual children.
· Assist the teacher in any way needed
Minimum Qualifications
· Must have a high school diploma
· Must be working towards a Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree
· Knowledge of and experience with creative and emergent-child care curricula.
· Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, printing documents, online searches
· Thorough knowledge of Washington State Child Care Licensing requirements.
· Complete State Training and Registry System (STARS) training within five to six months of hire. Having already started STARS certification training is preferred.
· Ability to work as a member of a team.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
