Work Study Program Intern

Amara is a non-profit organization that works to ensure that every child in foster care has the love and support of a committed family – as quickly as possible, and for as long as each child needs. Amara finds, prepares and supports foster and foster/adopt parents for children in foster care. We have been working in this community for over 90 years.
Duties and Responsibilities: Bring your organizational skills, creativity and initiative to Amara! We’re looking for a self-starter who enjoys interacting with people; is comfortable managing multiple priorities; and thrives on getting tasks done. We will flex responsibilities to your strengths and interests when possible. You will support Amara’s staff, including the clinical, administrative, financial, events, communications, fundraising and leadership teams. Duties may include: General administrative support; front desk staffing; drafting reports; preparation of materials for distribution to families; database entry of client information; assistance with tracking of data of various forms (Database and/or Excel); assistance in preparation for client trainings or support groups; technology assistance (imaging laptops, setting up work stations); records administration; and various other duties as needed. Bring your energy and motivation and we’ll find a way for it to benefit Amara and the greater community.
Amara believes that a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace culture enhances our ability to fulfill our mission. We strive for equity and justice in the way people are treated and the opportunities they have to succeed by working to address racism, unequal treatment and other barriers to inclusion. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds (including communities of color, the LGBT community, veterans, and people with disabilities) to apply and join us in our work.
Minimum Qualifications: A positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and excellent writing, customer service and communication skills. We’re looking for someone to make a commitment to this work and grow in the position. A demonstrated interest in social work, sociology, psychology, nonprofit management and event planning is preferred, but not required. Owning a car would be helpful but is not required. Applicant must be eligible for off-campus work study (for paid students). You will be asked to submit your work study award letter before an interview is offered.
Educational Benefits: Amara is an organization that is growing and changing, and you can have a real impact as an intern. You will have the opportunity to learn more about working with children in foster care and their families, nonprofit management, running a successful event, working with diverse groups of people, and project management. Working with an excellent, experienced, and enjoyable team with many years of experience, you will learn more about the day-to-day challenges and opportunities. Amara is a unique organization in our community, and there is a chance to learn a lot and make significant connections.
Application Instructions: Please complete an Amara Intern/Volunteer application at http://bttr.im/rqrb9.
Schedule and Pay: During the academic year, students may work 10-19 hours per week. During the summer, students may work up to 40 hours per week. This position starts at $14 per hour (for students who have been awarded off-campus work study funding).
