Position Overview
Student Office Assistants serve as the initial point of contact for students, faculty, and visitors in the School of Health Sciences. They support essential office functions by providing reception, clerical support to faculty and staff in records keeping, and support the academic environment for students enrolled in all School of Health Sciences Programs.

As a member of the School of Health Sciences, Student Office Assistants report directly to an Administrative Assistant and ultimately to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences. This position is intended for employment during the regular academic year (Sept-June) through graduation with potential for employment during academic breaks, including summer. 5 hours/week in Spring Quarter 2018.  10-15 hours/week Autumn Quarter 2018 through graduation.

General Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming atmosphere through phones conversations and in-person interactions by being courteous, outgoing, and considerate to all patrons.
  • Contribute to the development of community by maintaining the appearance and function of the office and common areas.
  • Provide clerical support including data entry, collation, copying, faxing, scanning, emailing, and mail distribution while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Complete special projects or tasks as assigned by staff and faculty.

Student Office Assistants are asked to provide their supervisor with their schedule in advance of each upcoming quarter and finals week.

Qualifications
Successful Student Office Assistants will be selected based upon their ability to work with diverse populations, complete administrative tasks, work both independently and as part of a team, and positively contribute to the overall learning community.

Due to the conflict of interest the position may present, students who plan to pursue a major or minor in the School of Health Sciences will not be considered.

  • Some proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Sensitivity and open-minded attitude towards people of different racial, religious, ethnic, ability, gender identity, and other backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision, take initiative with other team members to work collaboratively and communicate proactively.
Ability to work varied hours during normal business hours (between 8 a.m to 5 p.m.) on a weekly basis and occasional special events outside of those hours. Must be available for Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters OR communicate any potential leaves of absence prior to beginning employment.
